Progressive Candidates for Congress 2006

by jhmark last modified 2006-09-14 10:34

An integrated listing of endorsements and ratings from several organizations.

I have compiled a table of candidates in the 2006 Congressional elections (including the Senate) who have been endorsed by either the Council for a Livable World or the League of Conservation Voters.  For these candidates, ratings are also shown from Planned Parenthood Action Fund and from the American Civil Liberties Union, if available (i.e. if the candidate is already in Congress so that the voting record can be seen).

This is intended not as a complete reference, but as one tool to help inform your decision about which candidates to support.  A "Rough Score" is computed by combining the ratings from the four organizations.  It is called the "rough score" to encourage you not to take it too seriously!  The formula favors incumbents strongly, because only they can have a voting record and therefore a Planned Parenthood and ACLU score.

Please follow one of these links to see the table:

Explanation of Columns

Candidate
Name of the candidate.

District
State, and district number for the U.S. House, or "S" for the U.S. Senate.
Party
"D" = Democratic, "R" = Republican, "I" = Independent
CLW
1 if the candidate is endorsed by Council for a Livable World.
LCV
"E" if the candidate is endorsed by League of Conservation Voters.  "R" followed by a percentage score if the candidate is an LCV "Environmental Champion".
PP 2004
Planned Parenthood Action Fund score for 2004 (percentage).
ACLU 109th
ACLU score for the 109th Congress (percentage).
Rough Score
A score determined by a formula intended to balance the 4 endorsing organizations approximately equally.  However, be aware that incumbents are favored, because only those with a voting record will have a PP or ACLU score.
